Hello Friend

Living costs, housing affordability, and a habitable climate are hot topics for people in Bradfield, especially since the Minns Government launched the NSW Government housing proposal at the end of 2023.

In April and May, I'm running conversations with small groups of people from across our electorate. Initially I'm concentrating on cost of living and housing affordability as the discussion topics.

I'm calling these discussions Bradfield Issue Groups (BIGs) and I'd love to see you there. You can tell me what's important to you, so that we can build my campaign as a community independent around what's important to the people of Bradfield. I need to hear what's genuinely important to you so that I can best represent you when elected.

The aim is to have 8-10 people in each BIG where discussion is open and honest, and participant views are heard and respected.

What are your priorities?

Respondents to Voices of Bradfield's regular surveys prioritise:

  • action on climate change
  • a return to integrity in politics
  • economic leadership, strategy and vision
  • respect and safety for women in all workplaces

RSVP for a BIG and tell me what's important to you

At the start of each BIG we'll provide information about cost of living and housing affordability, so that you're armed with current and relevant information and can share your thoughts on the role of government.

Read on to find out how you can join the conversation, or perhaps bring some friends together to host a round-table yourself.

I look forward to seeing you for a discussion.

Thank you to the team at Ku-ring-gai Council for an engaging, informative and entertaining International Women's Day event at Killara Golf Club. It was a pleasure to meet impressive young women from Turramurra High School and Deputy Mayor of Ku-ring-gai, Cr Christine Kay, among the participants. I reconnected with Team Nic volunteer Stacie, who advocates for recognition, safety and better inclusion of gender diverse peoples in our local community.

I've had numerous constituents express their frustration at the lack of public co-ed options for their kids north of Ku-ring-gai High in North Turramurra. Two Hornsby families told me how they pop their young teens on the train to Gosford each week day to attend school. We have to do better and the NSW Government is finally giving us the opportunity to be heard on this issue. Fill out the Department of Environment's survey on the Hornsby-Berowra High Schools Community Consultation here (closes on Friday April 12).

It's going to be very difficult for the NSW Government to deliver on its legislated 2030 (50%) and 2035 (70%) emission reduction targets, if the Low and Mid-rise Housing plan for the state goes ahead as proposed. I submitted my comments on the housing proposal to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment at the end of February.

The inquiry into access to Australian Parliament House by lobbyists is still under way. My submission has been accepted and authorised for publication by the Committee as submission 42.

I'm proud to contribute to the Smart Energy Council's Gender Action Plan with its recent workshop on ways to boost women's participation in the smart energy industry. Australia still needs an additional 44,000 trade apprentices to help deliver our national emission reduction commitments.

Last week I spoke alongside Richard Denniss (Executive Director of The Australia Institute) at a Truth and Lies session hosted by the Community Independents Project. We discussed the role of the media in dissecting or amplifying political narratives in this digital age and the power of organised communities - like ours here in Bradfield - to counter the growing culture of untruth.

Use the Find Out More link below to go to my News page, where you'll find these submissions and a recording of the Truth and Lies session.
